A big part of a causeway connecting an island in southwestern Florida to the mainland collapsed into the Gulf of Mexico, leaving anybody who didn’t evacuate stranded, as Hurricane Ian left a path of devastation via the state Wednesday.
Roughly 50 to 65 toes of the Sanibel Causeway collapsed as Hurricane Ian roared via southwest Florida on Wednesday, NBC affiliate WBBH reported Thursday morning, because the destruction left behind by Ian comes into focus.
The splitting of the bridge cuts off entry to the island of roughly 6,700 folks and the place it stays unclear how many individuals didn’t evacuate forward of the storm.
