A driver died in a freak accident Thursday morning after getting pinned to a ticket machine whereas making an attempt to exit an Atlanta parking storage, police stated.
Officers responded to a Peachtree Road parking deck within the metropolis’s Midtown neighborhood simply after midnight.
Police stated the motive force forgot to place his truck in park as he opened his door to succeed in the machine that operates the exit gate. The automobile rolled ahead whereas he was partially exterior of it, pinning him to the kiosk.
The motive force was pronounced lifeless on the scene, police stated. His identify has not been launched.
The parking storage is utilized by The Starling Atlanta Midtown lodge, NBC affiliate WXIA of Atlanta reported. A lodge consultant stated they’d no data to share concerning the incident.
An investigation is ongoing, police stated.
Thursday’s accident comes almost two years after a 23-year-old Columbus, Ohio, lady was killed as she tried to depart a parking deck.
The lady, Victoria Strauss, dropped her card shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 18, 2021, whereas making an attempt to pay for parking, Columbus police stated.
When she opened her door and leaned over to choose up the cardboard, she inadvertently accelerated and hit the parking kiosk, in accordance with police.
Strauss, who grew to become pinned between her automotive door and the door body, died on the scene, police stated.
