Man detained after eggs were thrown at King Charles III and Camilla

LONDON — A protester was detained Wednesday after hurling eggs and vitriol at King Charles III and Camilla, the queen consort, as they walked within the northern England metropolis of York.

The incident occurred because the king and his spouse have been coming into York by way of Micklegate Bar, a medieval gateway the place monarchs are historically welcomed to town.

Video footage confirmed a number of eggs in movement and smashed on the bottom. None appeared to hit the royal couple, who continued to greet crowds.

A number of law enforcement officials may very well be seen grappling with a person at a crowd barrier. Britain’s PA information company reported that he booed and shouted “This nation was constructed on the blood of slaves” as he was being detained.

Different members of the gang tried to drown him out by chanting “Disgrace on you” and “God save the King.”

Charles and Camilla traveled to York as a part of a collection of engagements across the U.Ok. marking the beginning of the brand new king’s reign. In addition they visited town’s cathedral, York Minster, and unveiled a statue of the king’s mom. Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September after 70 years on the throne.
