An explosion rocked a well-liked pedestrian avenue within the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul, injuring plenty of individuals, a senior official stated Sunday.
Istanbul Gov. Ali Yerlikaya tweeted that the blast “occurred in Taksim Istiklal Road,” a crowded thoroughfare lined by retailers and eating places, at about 4:20 p.m. native time (8:20 a.m. ET).
“There are casualties and accidents,” he stated, including that emergency companies had been despatched to the scene.
It was unclear what brought about the explosion.
