The Baltimore Metropolis State Lawyer’s Workplace dropped fees Tuesday towards Adnan Syed in reference to the 1999 homicide of Hae Min Lee, weeks after his homicide conviction within the case was overturned.
Syed was sentenced to life behind bars in 2000, and his case gained nationwide notoriety from the podcast “Serial” in 2014.
His conviction was overturned as a result of trial prosecutors didn’t correctly flip over proof to protection attorneys that would have helped them present another person killed Lee. He was launched from jail on Sept. 19.
The Baltimore Metropolis State Lawyer’s Workplace then weighed whether or not to retry him or dismiss the fees.
The State Lawyer’s Workplace confirmed Tuesday morning that the fees had been dropped, and mentioned additional particulars would come within the afternoon.
