The U.S. Navy’s Mideast-based fifth Fleet says Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard seized and later let go of a U.S. sea drone within the Persian Gulf.
Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a fifth Fleet spokesman, stated Tuesday the incident noticed a Revolutionary Guard ship attempt to seize a Saildrone Explorer.
Hawkins stated the Guard vessel was towing the drone behind it as a U.S. Navy ship and helicopter approached it.
Hawkins informed The Related Press the Navy known as repeatedly to the Iranians, who in the end let the drone go.
Iran didn’t instantly acknowledge the incident. Nevertheless, it comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Iran over Tehran’s tattered nuclear cope with world powers.
